Applications are reviewed and checked by a federal processor. The results will be forwarded to the relevant financial offices at the colleges to which a student has applied for study. The results are then used by the colleges to determine the extent to which a student qualifies for state, federal or college sponsored financial aid, including student loans, grants, and work-study programmes.
Eligibility is also determined by some other basic criteria which need to be met. For example, students who apply must be US citizens, nationals, or eligible non-citizens. One will also need a social security number. Being charged with the possession or sale of drugs will disqualify students from applying for financial assistance.
